The advanced battery technology is an important means for humanity to address the challenges of global climate change and energy crisis. In particular, the rapid development of the electric vehicle industry and large-scale energy storage has brought significant market opportunities to the lithium battery industry. However, this rapid development also comes with various challenges. During usage or storage, lithium batteries may experience a certain probability of failure, including capacity decline (fading), short cycle life, increased internal resistance, abnormal voltage, lithium plating, gas generation, leakage, short circuit, deformation, and thermal runaway. These failures significantly reduce the performance, consistency, reliability, and safety of lithium batteries. Accurate diagnosis of battery failures and understanding their mechanisms are crucial tasks in the development of lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries. It is of great significance for enhancing battery performance, technological advancement, and failure prevention.


Currently, companies and research institutions with strong research capabilities have established teams for failure analysis. However, these efforts still cannot meet the needs of technological development. High-level failure analysis relies on advanced testing techniques and a deep, meticulous, systematic, and accurate understanding of batteries and related materials.


In order to further promote the development of battery failure analysis and testing technology in China, meet the needs of research institutions and companies, and keep abreast of the progress in failure analysis and advanced testing technology, the "5th National Symposium on Advanced Battery Failure Analysis and Testing Technology" will be held on October 26-27, 2023, in Liyang City, Jiangsu Province. This symposium will bring together high-level experts, third-party testing organizations, instrument technology experts, and others from both domestic and international communities. Discussions will revolve around topics such as battery component analysis techniques, structural morphology techniques, next-generation imaging techniques, surface/interface analysis techniques, thermal performance analysis techniques, gas analysis techniques, safety failure analysis techniques, numerical simulation and modeling techniques, synchrotron radiation and scattering neutron source techniques, intelligent sensing technologies, and more. The symposium aims to promote the development of advanced battery failure analysis and testing technology in China.
